Call me crazy, but I just paid $12 for a jar of pickles. Yep, I'm a freak!

All of you know that I am a big foodie. I was watching Food Network last week and saw one of my favorite shows - "The Best Thing I Ever Ate." It was a show about the best snack food ever. Ted Allen raved about:

McClure's Pickles - www.mcclurespickles.com

It's a family-owned business near Detroit, and each jar is hand packed by the family and a few of their workers. The pickles only come in 2 flavors - spicy and garlic dill. Once you eat the pickles, you can actually slice cucumbers into the leftover brine, let it sit for a couple weeks, and you've got more pickles!

I happened to be in our local Williams-Sonoma store yesterday, and behold - there were the pickles! Being the idiot foodie that I am, I forked out $12 to try these pickles. YUM! They're crunchy deliciousness! I got the garlic dill, because I'm not a fan of spicy, but Ted raved about them. You can actually get them for $10/jar on their website, but you have to pay shipping, and they only sell by the case.

Would I pay $12 again for these pickles? Probably not. But I’ll be sure to buy some cukes and make more as long as I can!

LOL! I love foodies! My husband and I LOVE Food Network. They used to do a similar show and one of the things they featured was "The most expensive cake." It had 12 or so layers and was full of all kinds of stuff. We of course...HAD TO HAVE IT!!!!! It was good but I would never buy it again. It does my heart good to know that there is another perfect consumer in the world. Tammy...you are my sister!

Kisses to your little pickle crunching face!

I am a collector of Hallmark ornaments as they tell the story of our family. My husband and I started collecting them 19 years ago and as the years have passed, it has become a family tradition as we collect different series’ and carefully choose other ornaments that reflect what has occurred in our family throughout the past year. Each year, we can’t wait until the “Wish Book” comes out so we can be ready for the Ornament Premiere in July. I guess the reason why this is the only thing that I collect is the simple fact that they are not out every day and each Christmas as they each are placed on our tree, it is a time to reflect on the years that we have shared together. Plus, someday when we are all gone they will be passed down throughout the family and as the years pass, our lives will still be told, not in words, but simply in the ornaments that we leave behind.
You can call me sentimental and it would be true, because the simplest things are what mean the most to me as they are the most priceless items in our lives other than those we LOVE.

Sigh. Double sigh. OK I must admit. I am not one to see food on tv and have to get it. I am however, the kind who while at Kroger and sees a huge sale on Fage, buys all they have and then later, wonders why. I will probably clean out the fridge this Sat and bring some stuff to the lunch bunch in a small cooler to give away. I hate wasting. I hate hoarding. I am really trying to change my ways.

Hmmm, I wonder if Williams Sonoma carrys them up here. I just might have to check. What I like the most, is the idea that you can soak the cukes, great idea!

I agree, the extra uses of the brine helps to justify the cost a little!!!

Freddie - yes, you are my sister at heart, girl. Would LOVE to go shopping with you sometime, and we really must setup a cooking time together this year. Can't wait to see you on Saturday! I watch a lot of Food Network - A LOT!

Sheila - I'm not sure if it's the same cake or not, but the one I saw (and bought - and ATE) was the coconut cake from the Peninsula Grill in Charleston. (And then I visited there personally to get MORE of it when I visited Charleston!) It was delish, but I would never pay that kind of money again.

http://www.peninsula...com/coconut.asp

When I bought it, it was about $55 plus overnight shipping, which is the only way they'll ship it. If you're going to buy it, I really suggest taking this to a family event where it will be immediately consumed. This is a vat that I would never crawl out of!

Mel - I'll bring my cooler on Saturday! Bring on the FAGE! LOL!

I love the Food Network now - since I can't have quantity, I'm going for quality :) I enjoy cooking (when I have time) and the Food Network gives me ideas for foods/spices that work well together.
