Boca Bruschetta Tomato Basil Parmesan Veggie Patty - Wow!  That is quite a mouthful for a title...  I'll just refer to it as Boca Burger. I've been trying to stay on top of things where my eating is concerned.  I'm cutting calories right and left by purchasing fat free sour cream, cottage cheese, lower calorie deli meat and cheese, cut.. cut.. cut away!  It's mostly about calorie intake for me right now.  I still have to eat.  I want to enjoy my food.  So I am cutting those calories to still consume food that taste great and not feel deprived.  THAT, I feel, is the key.  Or maybe not. It's just what I choose to believe right now!

Anywhooo....  stopped at Publix on my way home from work last night.  I was afraid my night time grazing habit may kick in, gnaw at me, and I wanted some different choices.  I can't say "better" choices, because the foods I have at the house are all good for me.  In particular, I wanted to buy some Snyder's of Hanover Eat Smart Soy Crisps (OK is it something about "good for you food" that allows them to give them long names?).  I purchased a few items, but there was no need to have them.  I planned out today's eating and picked up some Boca Burgers.  They were on sale, plus lower in calories than hamburger AND turkey lean ground.  Here's a picture of the box, for those who, like me, need a guide.

Now for the review.  Today for lunch, I had the most wonderful cheeseburger! I used:

  • 1/4 Joseph's Low Carb Pita Bread
  • 1 Packet Mustard
  • 1 small lettuce leaf
  • 1 piece swiss cheese
  • 1/2 piece cheddar cheese (had it left, threw it on)
  • Approx 2 tblsp Kroger Pizza Sauce
  • 2 tomato slices

Since this is a veggie burger, the spices and the pizza sauce makes it seem like a breaded parmesan encrusted patty, when in fact, it's not!  I liked it a lot.  And, it was very filling.  I made myself take that last bite and sure enough, I got the hiccups... the ultimate sign that says, "Melinda, stop. You're full."

At first, I felt guilty!  It was so wonderful to enjoy a hamburger, a REAL (well, in my mind as real as it will get) HAMBURGER like the ones I enjoyed prior to surgery.  I don't eat much hamburger anymore.  My tummy does not fare well with beef.  For those who are wondering, here are the stats:

Serving Size:  One Patty (which is individually wrapped, 4 come in the box)

Calories: 70; Fat:  1.5; Carbs: 9 (Minus 3.5 fiber = 5.5 net carbs); Sugars:  0; Protein: 10
