Atkins products - they are everywhere!  So why was I such a protein snob?

I am was such a protein snob.  I spent lots of money on the internet and supplement stores for protein that could not be purchased at the local grocery stores, for the most part.  And yet, every time I visit the grocery store, I end up smack dab in the middle of the "good food" section...  staring, gawking, reading food labels of all the protein products.  I have NO idea why I pass up the Atkins bars.  There are a few that I have tried in the past, early on.  But my tastes were different then.  Everything tasted funny.  Too sweet.  Aftertaste.  But sometimes in order to find a new thing, ya just gotta go back to an old thang!

I recently cut out many of my protein higher carb snacks.  And, joined a few new website forums discussing low carb diets.  These folks are not labeled "weight loss surgery communities" as they are average folk who follow low carb diets (such as Jimmy Moore's Livin' La Vida Low Carb).  I decided to cut carbs out, yet wanted something sweet or snacky sometimes.  I bought some Atkins bars, and can I just say WOW!  I snubbed my nose at these for quite some time, and yet all along, there they were right in front of my face in every local grocery store!

I had a $1 coupon and decided to use it on Atkins' Peanut Butter Cups.  I removed one from the box, and it was packaged just like a regular Reese's.  THAT was too cute!  There are two cups in each package, which are held inside of a plastic container to keep them from getting smooshed.  I took one out, it looked very similiar to a Reese's.  The edges were not as ridged, and the chocolate was more firm than Reese's.  But it looked appealing. Then I bit inside, and it was pleasantly a good comparison!  I handed half of it to Tim, and he took a bite.  He didn't snarl...  I asked his opinion.  "mmm hmm..."  Now of course that is not enough of an answer for me, so I prod him more, "Do you like it?"  He said, "Yeah it tastes like Reese's.  There is too much chocolate."  He likes the Reese's Easter Eggs that have thin chocolate outing, and lots of peanut butter inside!  But, overall, he said it was VERY close.

These have 160 calories, 18 carbs minus 4 fibers minus 12 sugar alcohols totaling 2 net carbs!!   *Only 2 proteins, but sometimes ya just gotta have something sweet and naughty!  I now have purchased 8 boxes of Atkins products which are on top of my fridge!  No more snobbery from this gal!
