There seems to be MANY hoops to jump through in order to have gastric bypass surgery. Insurance companies have tightened their purse strings and requiring 6 month pre-op diets, 10% excess body weight loss, and a list of co-morbidities. By the time you get the word that you've been approved, it's an emotional relief... one that brings many to tears because of the hope that their life is about to change.
I remember when Blue Cross Blue Shield released the word that my surgery was approved. I cried! I sat at my desk cubicle at work, started to shake out of anticipation and surprise, and the flood waters started to flow! I then called my mother, who thought something bad had happened because I could hardly speak to share the good news. It is a feeling I will never forget. I worked hard to get to that place!Perhaps you just found out that you've been approved! Let me be among the first to say, "Congratulations!" It has taken you a lot of hard work to get to this point! You've spent countless hours researching procedures, logging foods that you have eaten, exercising, struggling to lose that 10% overall body weight, jumping through all the other hoops that your insurance company has required... NOT to mention passing the psychological evaluation! It's an exhausting process! So here you are... with a stamp of approval on your request letter for surgery. I imagine that you cried... tears of uncertainty, happiness, overwhelmed, fear, just a wide array of emotion. I can relate... along with all the other wls patients.
It will be an interesting journey from this point forward. At times, it will be difficult. Other times, it will be the most incredible experience you could encounter. Your life is about to take a very expected change for the better. It is definitely worth all your efforts and labor! One thing I can guarantee... you are in for the ride of your life. Many things you have been unable to do for years will suddenly become part of your every day life. Among them: crossing your legs, seeing collarbones, sitting in a theatre seat, sitting in one seat on an airplane, bending over to tie your shoes... oh how the list goes on and on! These things that many skinny people take for granted, and we could not do as obese, will become a very real and common part of your life.
